London 2012: Olympic torch to visit Lincoln Cathedral

The torch will visit Lincoln Cathedral and castle during its tour of Lincolnshire

The Olympic torch is to visit Lincoln Cathedral as part of its relay journey across the UK.

It will enter Lincolnshire on 27 June in Louth, before travelling along the coast to Mablethorpe and Skegness.

The torch will then visit Lincoln, where it will be part of a special cultural event at Yarborough Sports Ground.

It will stay in the city overnight before leaving from the cathedral for Nottingham, via Newark and Grantham.

On its way out of the city the procession will pass through Lincoln Castle and make its way along Union Road to Saxilby.

Other route highlights include Belton House near Grantham, the setting for the 1995 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice starring Colin Firth, on 28 June.

Youth worker Dan Hargreaves will be taking part in the relay in Lincoln. He was nominated by schoolchildren for his work as part of theEnergizeproject.

Mr Hargreaves said: "I'm absolutely delighted to be representing Lincoln and it's a real honour - I'm very excited about the experience."

The torch will travel through: Legbourne, Withern, Maltby Le Marsh, Mablethorpe, Trusthorpe, Sutton on Sea, Mumby, Hogsthorpe, Ingoldmells, Winthorpe, Skegness, Wainfleet All Saints, Wrangle, Boston, Sleaford, Bracebridge Heath, Lincoln and Saxilby, before visiting the county for a second time on 4 July.

It will then visit: Thurlby, Bourne, Spalding, Moulton, Whaplode, Holbeach and Long Sutton on its way to an overnight stop in Norwich.

The relay will visit Lincolnshire for a third time on 3 July when it visits Burghley House in Stamford on its way to Peterborough from Rutland Water.

The 70-day relay begins at Land's End, Cornwall, on 19 May and arrives at the Olympic opening ceremony in London on 27 July.
