Plans have been unveiled for a new stadium at Gainsborough Trinity Football Club.

The designs for the Lincolnshire club's proposed 4,000-seat stadium were on show on Wednesday evening.

Chairman Peter Swann said he wanted comments from community members before plans were submitted to the council.

If plans are approved, work could begin on the new project in August or September and be completed by July 2013, Mr Swann said.

The Blue Square Bet North club has been at its current Northolme ground since 1873 but just leases the site as Gainsborough does not own it.

'Employing local people'

Mr Swann said the new stadium would be a "community project rather than just a football project".

"We are not taking money out of the community, we are bringing it in as it's important to us," said Mr Swann.

"Once we have have got planning permission, we will go out to tender and hope a lot of local businesses will tender for it.

"We are looking forward to hopefully employing a lot of local people."

On Sunday, Gainsborough Trinity play Nuneaton Town in the Blue Square Bet North play-off final.
