Gainsborough's bus service has been improved, according to Lincolnshire County Council.

Routes 1 and 2 will run every 15 minutes throughout the day, compared with the previous once an hour service.

A spokesperson for the council said a partnership with operator Stagecoach was designed "to encourage more people back on to the service".

The improved service, from 19 February, is paid for by the government's bus service improvement plan.

Clio Perraton-Williams, a Lincolnshire county councillor, said the change was "fantastic news for people in and around Gainsborough".

"Not only will [buses] provide people with easier access to town for whatever they need to do, but it will offer those who get around town by car a reliable, more environmentally friendly alternative," she said.

"And with all Stagecoach single journeys currently benefiting from a £2 fare cap, there's no better time to leave the car at home and hop on the next bus into town."
