Tower Hamlets election count suspended again

Counting for the local elections at Tower Hamlets will resume on Tuesday

Vote counting for the council elections in Tower Hamlets has been suspended again.

The count was suspended on Saturday morning after the processing of ballots for the borough's mayoral ballot ran over.

London was also one of the last regions to return European Parliamentary results due to delays in Tower Hamlets.

The council suspended its operations at 03:00 BST and the counting for council elections will now resume on Tuesday.

Lutfur Rahman of Tower Hamlets First was elected as mayor following the election on Thursday.

The provisional council line-up shows Tower Hamlets First Group and Labour on 18 seats each and four Conservatives, but no party in overall control.

Recounts have been taking place at Bromley South ward, but even after it is complete there will still be three vacancies in Blackwall and Cubitt Town where the election was postponed after a candidate's death.
