HS2 tunnel machine breaks through to Old Oak Common station

A tunnel boring machine has broken through to Old Oak Common station.

The 853m-long tunnel will be used to transport the materials needed to construct the line eastwards towards Euston.

Over the past nine months, the tunnel boring machine, named Lydia, has removed 62,000 tonnes of London clay, all of which is sent by rail for reuse across the UK. It has also installed 535 concrete rings.
