Beano comic to include joke by North Finchley primary school pupils

Pupils in Year 6 at Northside Primary School have been voted as the Beano's the funniest class in Britain

Children from a London school who submitted a joke to the Beano comic will be included in the publication after winning a UK-wide competition.

Beano writers chose their 10 favourite gags and put them to a public vote.

Year 6 at Northside Primary School in North Finchley won with: "What's the hottest area in the classroom? The corner - because it's 90 degrees."

The joke will be featured in the Bash Street Kids strip in the latest issue of the 85-year-old weekly publication.

Mike Stirling, "director of mischief" at the Beano, said the children "found the funniest angle overall and are deservedly now immortalised in Beanotown, but every entry gave us a great laugh".

He said the competition, called Britain's Funniest Class, "is a celebration of the brilliant benefits of laughter at school, for pupils and teachers alike".

Sarah Crouchley from the north London primary school, said the contest was "a great way to inspire creativity and innovation amongst children".

"Classrooms should be filled with laughter and learning, so thank you to Beano for allowing us to share our silly antics across the country.

"I speak for my whole class when I say we are buzzing to be joining the Bash Street Kids on the pages of their latest issue."

Other top-10 entries included "when is a T-rex not a T-rex? When it is a coffee-rex", by Tudor Primary School in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, and "How did bees get to school? They took the buuuuussssss", by St Joseph's Primary School in Upminster, east London.
