Ranya Alayed's disappearance is out of character, say police

The husband of a missing mother-of-three from Manchester has appeared in court accused of her murder.

Rania Alayed, 25, from Cheetham Hill, Manchester, has not been seen since early June.

Ahmed Khatib, 33, of Knutsford Road, Gorton has been remanded in custody by magistrates until his next hearing on 10 July at Manchester Crown Court.

The BBC understands two men arrested, one on suspicion of murder, are Mr Khatib's brothers.

One of the men, aged 34, was originally arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender but has now been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The other, aged 38, is still under arrest on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The BBC understands a 64-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender - but who have now been released on bail - are Mr Khatib's parents.

They have been bailed until 19 August.

Ms Alayed, moved to Manchester in January from the north-east of England, was reported missing from home on Tuesday. Her disappearance was described as out of character.
