Manchester fire death: Arrested girls face no action

Flowers and notes of condolence have been placed close to the scene of the fire

No further action will be taken against two 15-year-old girls held after a fire which cost the life of a Manchester firefighter.

Stephen Hunt, a 38-year-old father-of-two, died while tackling the fire at Paul's Hair World in Oldham Street on Saturday afternoon.

The girls were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter on Sunday and later bailed until September.

But Greater Manchester Police has now cancelled the girls' bail.

A GMP spokesperson said following an assessment of the initial information and the girls' accounts a decision has been made to take no further action.

A second firefighter who was being treated for injuries in hospital is now recovering at home, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said.

The service said messages of goodwill had flooded into the fire service.

Books of condolence have been opened at the scene of the fire in Oldham Street, at Philip's Park Fire Station where Mr Hunt was based, and in the reception area of Fire Service Headquarters in Swinton.
