Passengers wait at Manchester Piccadilly station after overhead line problems
Dozens of trains to and from Manchester Piccadilly station have been cancelled or delayed due to damaged overhead lines, Network Rail has said.
Some journeys have been delayed by more than an hour and the disruption has lasted for most of the day.
There were knock-on effects at other stations with some services in Merseyside and Yorkshire affected.
A Network Rail spokesman said repairs will be taking place overnight.
He said services should be back to normal on Thursday morning but people are advised to check National Rail enquiries, external before travelling.
