Richard Ashcroft: Ex-Verve star says homecoming will be amazing
- Published
Singer Richard Ashcroft has said his first homecoming gig in more than a quarter of a century will be "an amazing night".
Ashcroft will play Robin Park in Wigan on 20 July 2024.
It will be the two-time Ivor Novello winner's first major show in the town as a solo artist, having previously taken to the stage at Haigh Hall with The Verve in 1998.
He said he was "looking forward" to playing a show "in my hometown".
Ashcroft, who last played Wigan at the height of The Verve's fame, recently went to number two in the UK album charts with Acoustic Hymns Vol 1, a collection of reworkings of his solo work and the hits of his former band.
A representative said the singer was "delighted to announce his long-awaited homecoming show", which would be "the first time Richard has performed in Wigan for over 25 years".
Ashcroft has also announced shows at Halifax's Piece Hall and Audley End House in Saffron Walden amid rumours that he will appear at Glastonbury in 2024.
An appearance at the festival would mark a return to the scene of The Verve's headline set in 2008, a show regarded as one of their most triumphant.
Tickets for the 2024 show in Wigan go on sale on Friday.
