The family of a woman who died in a collision as she was crossing a road on her mobility scooter have appealed for pictures of the crash scene to be removed from social media.

Brenda Rostron, 63, died after being involved in a collision with an HGV on Spotland Road in Rochdale on Thursday.

Her family said they wanted to be left to "grieve in peace".

A man, 32, had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, police said.

The man had since been released under investigation, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said.

PC Philip Drummond said the images circulating online of the crash scene had caused "distress and pain to a grieving family".

He asked for any images or footage of the crash to be taken down.

In a statement, Mrs Rostron's family said the pictures had "hurt us more than we can put in to words".

They pleaded for people to "please take these down and do not share any more photos".

"No one should lose someone they love in this way, and all we want now is to be able to grieve as a family in peace and remember her and all the special memories we have of her," they added.

Officers asked anyone with information about what happened to get in touch.
