A 70-year-old man has died after he was hit by a Land Rover while crossing a road.
The pedestrian was struck on Halifax Road in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, on Wednesday afternoon.
He was taken to hospital in a critical condition and later died from his injuries shortly afterwards, police said.
The driver, aged 29, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.
The man, who remained at the scene, was interviewed and released under investigation.
Det Con Carl Boydell urged anyone with any information, including mobile phone, dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
"This is to ensure we can complete all our enquiries and fully investigate, providing answers to the family and friends affected by the incident," he said.
