Moss Side: Teenager stabbed to death 'days before 18th birthday'
- Published
A teenage boy stabbed to death in Moss Side on Thursday was "days from his 18th birthday", police have said.
The victim was named by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) as Prince Walker, who was attacked on Raby Street at 16:15 BST.
No arrests have yet been made.
Detectives said they were looking for footage showing three males in dark clothing, some on bicycles, who were seen in the area.
GMP said it had stepped up patrols in the area and crime scene investigators remained at the scene.
Det Ch Insp Neil Higginson, of GMP's Major Incident Team, urged anyone with potentially relevant CCTV, mobile phone, doorbell camera or dashcam footage to come forward.
'Cusp of adulthood'
He said: "Prince was a few days away from being 18-years-old, and he should have been celebrating his birthday with his family and friends.
"This is a tragic and senseless loss of life of a boy that was on the cusp of adulthood."
DCI Higginson said he and his team would "work tirelessly" to find the culprits.
One Raby Street resident told BBC Radio Manchester on Friday: "I don't understand why there's no cameras. I don't feel safe at all."
Community activist Prof Erinma Bell MBE, who has campaigned to tackle gun crime in the area, said she was "upset and bewildered" by the attack.
She said: "We had the gun and gang crime which was very unfortunate, but we have battled that as a community and we have changed Moss Side around."
