Bin collections have been paused in the area where a human torso was found as police continue a murder investigation.

Salford Council has confirmed rubbish will not be emptied from homes around Kersal Wetlands, where the remains of a man were found last week.

Divers and search dogs are continuing to comb the nature reserve as part of efforts to identify the victim.

A 20-year-old man has been bailed after he was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Salford Council's deputy mayor John Merry said Greater Manchester Police had requested all collections in the Kersal area and parts of Broughton be put on hold.

In a statement on X, he said the council would "endeavour to restart them as soon as possible".

Domestic, food and garden waste was due to be collected in the area on Wednesday, alongside recycling.
