A crackdown has kicked off against rogue traders outside Old Trafford on Manchester United matchdays.

Trafford Council teamed up with the police and club officials to also tackle taxi drivers illegally "plying for hire" and before the home game against Liverpool on 7 April.

They also monitored food hygiene at burger and fast food stands.

A total of 19 fixed penalty notices to illegally parked vehicles were issued and 73 fake products seized.

More than 100 licenced taxi drivers and street traders were spoken to before the game by the club's brand protection team and trading standards officers.

A Trafford Council spokesman said: "Further legal action will be taken against some traders who were committing offences and were obstructive towards council officers who were trying to carry out their tasks."

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We were able to remove a significant number of unlicensed products from the streets and reprimanded traders who were offending outside Old Trafford."

There was also a similar crackdown before the Fulham game on 24 February.

The club's director of operations Jim Liggett said: "We remain committed to supporting the local authorities as we seek to collectively reduce any impact matches at Old Trafford may have on the community around the stadium."
