BBC Introducing Merseyside presenter Dave Monks will host a special stage for new music as part of the Mathew Street Fringe Festival.

The BBC Sessions stage in Chavasse Park, Liverpool will showcase local talent on Saturday 27 August.

The free event will feature sets by The Sixteen Tonnes, Natalie McCool, Strawhouses, The Thespians, All We Are and Mark Delaney.

The Mathew Street Festival takes place on Sunday 28 and Monday 29 August.

Dave Monks said: "The BBC summer sessions are a chance to see some of the bands who have played live on the programme."

"This is the first year at Liverpool One and it is the perfect venue to sit off for a few hours and witness some of the best local talent all for free.

"We are planning to record the sets so we can use the highlights on the BBC Introducing programme on Radio Merseyside the following Sunday.

"Of course, we are relying on the good old British weather for an event like this, but fingers crossed it will be cracking the flags and blue skies.

"Just don't forget your sarnies and sun cream."
