Beatles club in West Derby conservation area extension

The proposal extends the current West Derby Village Conservation Area
Plans to extend the conservation area around West Derby village in Liverpool have been announced.
The extension takes in Haymans Green which includes the building where The Casbah Club run by the mother of former Beatle's drummer Pete Best was located.
John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison played at the venue as both The Quarrymen and The Beatles.
Residents will be consulted about the proposals, which would restrict property alterations and tree pruning.
The extension of the West Derby Village Conservation Area would cover about 100 more properties.

Malcolm Kennedy, cabinet member for regeneration and transport for Labour-controlled Liverpool City Council, said: "We want to encourage as many residents as possible to take part in the consultation over the extension of the conservation area.
"It's really important that local people make their views known as these plans will affect the way the village develops in the future."
West Derby Village is older than Liverpool and was mentioned in the Domesday Book.
The Casbah Club building was given Grade II listed building status in 2006.
The consultation ends on 25 November, 2011 after which the council's cabinet will make a decision on the conservation area status.
