Six Liverpool fans have raised more than £10,000 running 76 miles from the Hillsborough stadium in Sheffield to the Reds' home at Anfield.

Money raised will be distributed between the Hillsborough Families Support Group (HFSG) and the Hillsborough Justice Campaign (HJC).

They arrived just after 11:00 BST, the day before the 23rd anniversary of the tragedy that cost 96 lives.

The group set off on Thursday from Leppings Lane where 95 fans perished.

Organiser Conor Brennan said: "It was really tough over the last day, two of the lads were really suffering, and the last three miles we had to keep stopping for help from the support team."

The runners celebrated the end of their run by watching their heroes beat Everton 2-1, on television at The Sandon pub, a popular pre-match bar for Liverpool fans.

Ninety-five fans died before the Liverpool v Nottingham Forest FA Cup Semi-Final on 15 April 1989 in the crush at the Leppings Lane End.

The 96th victim Tony Bland, died in 1992 in the Airedale Hospital, West Yorkshire, after the Law Lords ruled that his artificial feeding could be ended in a landmark judgement.

Fans and players observed a minute's silence before the Liverpool v Everton match.

A memorial service takes place at Anfield on Sunday starting at 14:45 BST.
