Inquiry into £150m Great Homer Street project starts

If approved, work on Project Jennifer could start next year

A public inquiry has begun to decide whether a £150m redevelopment project in north Liverpool can go ahead.

Plans for the regeneration of the Great Homer Street area, which developer St Modwen says could create up to 1,000 jobs, were first proposed in 2004.

The inquiry follows objections to an application to the government by Liverpool City Council for compulsory purchase orders.

A decision from the inquiry on Project Jennifer is expected in the autumn.

The scheme includes 480 new homes, a supermarket, health centre, library, a new market and improvements to Everton Park.

If approved work is set to start on the site next year.
