Thousands of people dressed as Father Christmas have joined Liverpool's annual charity Santa Dash in a bid to claim a world record.

Organisers hope to take the World Santa Challenge title from current holder Las Vegas with more than 10,000 participants.

A Santa flew into the city from Las Vegas and paraded through the centre on Saturday to launch the challenge.

The run began with a choral rendition of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.

Last year 8,500 people took part in the festive 5km fun run.
