A former PC has appeared in court accused of misconduct over footage of an alleged incident involving England captain Steven Gerrard.

Helen Jones, 33, was arrested following the alleged confrontation between the Liverpool captain and a man near a Merseyside shop in August.

She faces a misconduct in a public office charge over claims she recovered the Formby shop's CCTV while off-duty.

Ms Jones, of Chatham, Kent was granted bail by South Sefton Magistrates.

She is due to appear at Preston Crown Court on 23 January.

Ms Jones was on a career break from Merseyside Police at the time of the alleged incident, the force confirmed. She has since resigned from the force.
