Police said the attack on Vincent Waddington was targeted

The family of a teenager shot dead in a Liverpool street have rejected media reports that he had gang links.

Vincent Waddington, 18, was found with serious gunshot wounds following a crash between a car and a scrambler bike in Banks Road, Garston on Tuesday.

A 25-year-old man from Speke was arrested on suspicion of murder and has been released on bail.

Mr Waddington's family said: "He was a normal young intelligent lad, which any working class family would relate to."

They added: "We would like to say Vincent wasn't in a gang. He had his mates who he grew up with, who he would do anything for.

"Vincent was a huge part of his community and loved by everyone.

"He was taken from us too young, too soon. It did not have to be like this and no parent should have to go through this.

"I know I speak for everyone, all family and friends when I say not one day will go by where he isn't missed, thought of or remembered and we all hold a happy memory of him."

Three other people have been arrested in connection with Mr Waddington's death.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm. A man aged 31 and a 32-year-old woman, arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, were later released without charge.
