The Unite union warned strikes by refuse collection workers in Warrington "will continue into the festive season"

A fourth round of strikes is to be held by refuse collection workers in Warrington in a dispute over pay.

Members of the Unite union will walk out from 21 November until 4 December.

Unite said a provisional agreement was agreed this week, but added the council had not confirmed proposals in writing, so members could not be consulted.

Warrington Council had previously called for the union to cancel the strikes, as it said the action was over a national pay offer.

Unite general secretary, Sharon Graham, said: "Throughout this dispute Warrington council has dithered and delayed, needlessly dragging this strike out. Unless council leaders sharpen up, this strike will continue into the festive season."

Union members previously walked out between 3 and 16 October with the council unable to complete collections on most days and a second strike ran from 24 October to 6 November.

Further industrial action followed on Wednesday until 20 November, when the new action will start.
