Mason Clague carried out the "dangerous and callous assault"

A man who stabbed a 12-year-old boy in the leg on a bouncy castle at a children's party has been jailed.

Mason Clague, of Southport Road, Bootle, was convicted of wounding with intent following the attack on the boy in April 2021.

The 23-year-old was sentenced to six years at Liverpool Crown Court.

Merseyside Police said the "dangerous and callous assault" was still having "a significant and lasting impact on the young boy".

The force said the child was stabbed three times and needed hospital treatment.

'Despicable'

Det Ch Insp Ben Dyer said: "This was an extremely shocking incident where a young boy was attacked and injured. The events that day stunned the local community.

"Thankfully the young victim's injuries were not life-threatening but the incident could easily have ended in more tragic circumstances.

"We hope that today's sentencing will provide the victim and his family with some comfort in knowing that Clague is paying for his crime.

"I hope Clague will use this time to reflect on his despicable actions of that day."
