The car crashed into a gas substation in Queensbury Way

Hundreds of people have been left without gas after a car crash caused a leak, the fire service has said.

The car crashed into a gas substation in Queensbury Way, Widnes, at 18:30 GMT on New Year's Eve.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said several houses were evacuated in the Dutton and Upton Rock area in response to the leak.

A fire service spokesperson said "hundreds" of homes were without gas as "engineers work to stop the leak".
