Police were called to Roughwood Drive in Kirkby after the woman was found unconscious

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found unconscious in a house.

The woman, in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene on Roughwood Drive in Kirkby at about 17:20 on Sunday.

Merseyside Police said her death was still being treated as unexplained but a 23-year-old man remained in custody for questioning.

Ch Insp Colin Dyer said the force was "carrying out a number of lines of inquiry".

He said witness inquiries were being "carried out in the local area" and officers were examining local CCTV and video doorbell footage "to build a picture of what has happened".

"We would ask anyone who was in the area of Roughwood Drive who saw or heard anything to contact us as a matter of urgency," he added.
