Mike Liggins: Classic moments from BBC reporter's 35-year career

A TV news reporter leaving the BBC has reflected on a 35-year career in which he made more than 6,000 films.

Mike Liggins become known for his own unique style after joining Norwich-based news programme Look East in 1987.

Mr Liggins said he had enjoyed outside broadcasts and presenting live from different situations such as on a lifeboat as it launched from Cromer, Norfolk.

He said: "At heart, I'm a show-off. Growing up in local radio, I knew I could talk for England. I've always loved doing those things with action and being able to show the viewer something, to go somewhere, to go on something.

"But there is a time to leave the stage and I always wanted to go leaving people wanting more and, hopefully, I'm doing that. So, I feel sad, but I feel good as well."

Robert Thompson, senior head of content production for BBC East, said: "Mike is a superb storyteller who makes you sit up and watch the TV.

"He truly connected with audiences across our region. Mike will be enormously missed, both by his colleagues and our viewers."
