Increase in Northamptonshire drink-drive arrests
- Published
More than 100 people have been arrested for drink-driving in Northamptonshire in December.
Between 1 and 27 December police arrested 102 drivers for taking to the wheel while under the influence of alcohol.
The figures are up by a third on last year when 76 people had been arrested.
Police have suggested the increase in arrests may be down to a higher number of roadside checks.
A force spokesperson said: "There has been a high profile campaign of roadside checks and early indications would suggest there had been more this year.
"But the figures will not be final until January 6."
The force has vowed to continue with roadside checks at various locations in the county.
Police are also encouraging anyone who suspects a person of driving while under the under the influence of drink or drugs to report them to the Drivewatch Hotline - 0800 174615 - a 24-hour-telephone service which is monitored by police.
