Northampton rail freight depot to go before councillors

A multimillion-pound rail freight interchange which could create 7,500 jobs will be considered by councillors.
Roxhill developers want to build the depot and warehousing on a 116 acre (468,000 sq m) site at junction 15 of the M1, south of Northampton.
The site would also include container storage, lorry parking and rail sidings to serve each warehouse.
A report to Northampton Borough Council recommends that councillors support the scheme.
The Northampton Gateway Strategic Rail Freight Interchange, external will also be examined by South Northamptonshire Council on 30 November before the scheme is submitted to the Planning Inspectorate early next year.
A report on the Northampton Gateway website, external says: "The site is in a strategically significant location for logistics and distribution activity."
It says once completed the interchange could support 7,544 jobs and add £358m a year to the economy of the area.
