Mansfield car park charges set for major changes

Council-run car park charges in Mansfield are undergoing major changes as officials hope to attract more visitors to the town centre.

Some will go up, some will stay the same and others will fall from 80p an hour to £1.50 for two hours.

Extra money raised by the changes will help Mansfield District Council meet the VAT rise it has to pay to the government from its parking charges.

The parking charge changes came into force on Friday.

A new evening ticket at the Town Hall and Queen Street car parks will enable people to park from 1830 to 0800 for £2 and day passes in long stay car parks (Robin Hood Line and Grove Street) have been extended from eight hours to 10 hours.

Bev Smith, Corporate Director at Mansfield District Council, said: "We hope that the changes to car parking charges will encourage people to stay in the town centre for longer and have a more enjoyable visit as the need to rush back to the car park after an hour will no longer be an issue.

"The new evening ticket will hopefully encourage residents to do more of their socialising locally and enjoy evenings out at the theatre, restaurants and bars in the town centre."
