Legion to add missing names to Nottinghamshire memorial

The Royal British Legion is working to place about 100 missing names on a war memorial in Nottinghamshire.

The problem was noticed when the granddaughter of a soldier realised his name was missing from the World War I memorial in Hucknall.

The British Legion's Mick Howard said he was working with historians to make sure the missing names are put back on.

He said a plaque was stolen from the memorial in 1993 and some names were omitted when it was replaced.

It was also discovered that other names had been omitted because soldiers had moved away or were not originally added to the memorial.

Local historian Jim Grundy said he was working to ensure all the missing names were added.

There are currently 279 names on the memorial.

The legion is working with Ashfield District Council and the War Memorials Trust to find the funding to update the memorial.
