A motorist failed to stop after a collision with PC Diederik Coetzee

A cyclist injured in a hit-and-run incident in Nottinghamshire has been named as an off-duty police officer.

PC Diederik Coetzee was hurt in a crash with a car at 18:00 GMT on Friday in Blidworth Lane, near Blidworth.

The 54-year-old was taken to King's Mill Hospital in Mansfield and was in a critical but stable condition, Nottinghamshire Police said.

Investigators have appealed for witnesses or anyone who has seen a damaged grey vehicle to contact them.

Det Sgt Ged Hazelwood said: "The collision happened during rush hour, when many people were headed home from work.

"PC Coetzee was wearing a high-visibility vest and had his bike lights turned on."

Debris from the scene indicated the vehicle involved in the collision could be metallic dark grey with damage to the bumper, grille and at least one of the lights, investigators said.

Local garages and car repairers are being asked to look out for a vehicle matching the police description. Witnesses are asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police's crash investigation team.
