A man has been arrested over a crash which left a Nottinghamshire police officer in a critical condition.

PC Diederik Coetzee, 54, who was off duty, was hurt in a crash with a car at 18:00 GMT on Friday while cycling in Blidworth Lane, near Blidworth.

A 32-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failure to stop at the scene of a collision, and failure to report a crime.

Police said they were still trying to trace witnesses.

PC Coetzee remains in a critical but stable condition at King's Mill Hospital.

Debris from the scene indicated the vehicle involved in the collision could be metallic dark grey with damage to the bumper, grille and at least one of the lights, investigators said.

Police said they had been examining CCTV footage, visiting mechanics and scrap metal dealers and speaking with local residents as part of their investigations.
