A 24-year-old woman and a nine-year-old boy have died after a house fire in Nottinghamshire.

Emergency services went to the blaze in Rawson Street, Selston, at about 01:00 GMT on Sunday.

Three people escaped but two others were left in a serious condition and taken to hospital.

Nottinghamshire Police confirmed the deaths of the pair on Thursday, adding a joint investigation with the fire service was ongoing.

Det Insp James Oakton said: "This has also been a traumatic event for the local community, especially for neighbours who will no doubt be shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic incident.

"We are continuing to work alongside our fire colleagues to establish exactly what has caused the fire but at this stage we do not believe it was suspicious."

Assistant chief fire officer Damien West, from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, added: "I know that everyone who attended gave their everything to save those affected by this fire."
