Nottingham: Crews tackle blaze in car park of city flats

Fire crews have tackled a blaze in the underground car park of a block of flats in Nottingham.

Firefighters were called to the Litmus Building on Huntingdon Street, Nottingham, at 03:27 BST on Monday.

Fire officer Tom Staples said the blaze had involved two cars and that they had been "well alight".

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze had been extinguished but crews would remain at the scene for "some time".

The building was partially evacuated while the blaze was dealt with and the fire service said it was working with the police to get residents back into the building safely.

King Edward Street, where the entrance to the building is located, is closed but the fire service said surrounding roads were open.

The fire service has asked people to avoid the area "where possible".

A spokesperson added that there would be an investigation into the cause of the fire.
