Plans for 800-home housing estate in Barton, Oxford

A development with 800 homes could be built in Barton, Oxford.

A consultation document regarding the proposal is to be discussed by the executive board of Oxford City Council next week.

The planned project at the 90-acre site has been described by a council spokesperson as "the largest residential development opportunity in the city for many years".

If approved further consultation will follow in May.

The spokesperson added: "The council hopes that everyone with an interest in the future of the area - residents, community groups, local organisations, businesses, employers and providers of infrastructure and services - will take the opportunity to contribute their views."

A document will then be submitted to the secretary of state in early 2012 to implement later that year.
