The Oxfordshire Olympic torch will end its tour of the county with a journey on a rowing boat at Henley-on-Thames.

The flame will stop in Oxford on 9 July next year after travelling from Luton.

From its final Oxfordshire location, Henley-on-Thames, it will be taken on a rowing boat to Reading, Berkshire, on 10 July 2012.

The full 70-day tour around the UK will take in more than 1,000 different locations, including 10 Oxfordshire towns and villages.

'Memorable occasion'

From its arrival at Bicester, the Olympic flame will head to Kirtlington, Woodstock and Kidlington, before arriving in Oxford.

It will then pass through Abingdon, Wallingford, Crowmarsh Gifford, Nettlebed and Henley-on-Thames on its way to Berkshire.

A spokesperson for Oxfordshire County Council said: "We welcome the announcement by The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, who have undertaken the planning of the route, and are delighted that the county will host the Olympic torch relay to enable as many people to witness this memorable occasion."

The Olympic flame is set to arrive in the UK from Greece on 18 May 2012.

It will leave Land's End, Cornwall, the following morning before travelling 8,000 miles (12,874km) around the UK.
