Ensar Gol guilty of double murder of wife and mother in law

A man who stabbed his wife and mother-in-law to death in Oxfordshire has been found guilty of murder.

Ensar Gol, 22, repeatedly stabbed his 28-year-old wife Michala at their home in Thame on 4 September, 2011.

Her mother Julie Sahin, 50, and a family friend, Casey Wilson, 20, ran upstairs to try to defend her but were both stabbed, Mrs Sahin fatally.

Gol had sent a Facebook message saying "wild Turkish wolf ready to slit their throats", Oxford Crown Court heard.

The Turkish national was caught on CCTV while carrying the murder weapon in the town's High Street, before being arrested by officers.

Gol, of Ireton Court, who met Michala while she was on holiday in Turkey, had denied two counts of murder and one of attempted murder, but was convicted unanimously by a jury. He will be sentenced on Friday.

During the trial, Dafydd Enoch, prosecuting, told the court: "The marriage was clearly unhappy. He was clearly homesick. But none of this can even begin to explain the cold acts of murder in which he indulged: senseless slaughter born out of premeditated ruthless violence."

Mr Enoch told the court Michala was in the bedroom and their three-year-old daughter was asleep in a corner of the same room. Their two-year-old son was asleep in another bedroom.

Mr Enoch said: "Mr Gol attacked Michala with the knife, stabbing her repeatedly in the area of the neck. She was killed right there by him with the knife, defenceless and in front of her daughter.

"She desperately tried to protect herself with her arms and legs but he was too strong and powerful for her."

Mrs Sahin and Ms Wilson tried to pull him away but Ms Wilson fell on to the bedroom floor, the court heard.

"He stabbed her with the knife. It was a quite deliberate act on his part. She didn't see the knife and thought she was being punched. He stabbed her [Ms Wilson] several times," Mr Enoch said.

Ms Wilson fled the house to call police, the court heard.

Mr Enoch described the scene as "like something from an X-rated horror film".

Outside court, Det Ch Insp Joe Kidman commended the "great bravery" of two unarmed police officers who arrested Gol while he was still holding the murder weapon.
