Sir Elton John has been been revealed as the opening night headliner for the Henley Festival.

The pop star will perform on the festival's Floating Stage on 6 July, organisers said.

Sir Elton said: "I am thrilled that I will be able to say I have played the beautiful Henley-on-Thames."

The five-day festival, which started in 1983, features music, comedy and dance, and is expected to attract about 35,000 people.

Set on the banks of the River Thames, the festival runs from 6-10 July.

Sir Elton and his band will also perform as headliners at the Nocturne festival in Blenheim Palace on 26 June.
