A man who died after an attack in a Shropshire town on Wednesday night has been named by police.

Trainee accountant Danny Jones, 21, from Chirk, north Wales, died in hospital after receiving a single stab wound to his abdomen in Oswestry.

Det Insp Steve Tonks said officers were still hunting for the weapon used, which was believed to be a knife.

An 18-year-old man arrested in Llansilin on Thursday morning on suspicion of murder remains in custody.

The stabbing took place near a car park in Lord Street, shortly before 20:20 BST.

Mr Tonks, who is leading the investigation, said: "Searches are continuing in the Oswestry area for the weapon used, which at this time is believed to be a knife."

'Lovely lad'

He said part of the car park and a nearby address remained cordoned off while searches continued.

Mr Tonks appealed for anyone with information about the attack to come forward.

Mr Jones worked for Oswestry-based Woodhead Consulting.

The firm said in a statement: "Danny had been working with us for about three weeks and had been due to start his apprenticeship in September.

"He was a lovely lad: eager and keen to work.

"We were very pleased with him as a member of the team and everyone here is very sad and very shocked.

"All our thoughts are with his family."
