A gold medal-winning Paralympian has been awarded the freedom of his home town in Shropshire.

Mickey Bushell, from Telford, is the current T53 100m world record holder and won gold in London 2012.

The Birchfield Harriers member also won the T53 class at the European championships in Swansea last month.

The 24-year-old was presented with the freedom of the borough at a meeting of Telford and Wrekin Council on Thursday evening.

Deputy mayor Amrik Jhawar, who made the presentation, said: "We have wanted to bestow the honour of freedom of the borough on Mickey since he won his Paralympic gold.

"However his schedule of training and racing is so busy that it has taken until now to identify a full council meeting that he is able to attend."

The local authority painted a bus gold in 2012 to celebrate Bushell's success.
