Bath and North East Somerset Council currently provides no authorised sites for travellers

A consultation into the siting of a proposed official travellers site in Somerset has started.

Bath and North East Somerset Council (Banes) is considering six sites at Whitchurch, Stanton Wick, Radstock, Keynsham, Newbridge and Twerton.

Five public events will be held - in Radstock, Stanton Drew, Bath, Pensford and Keynsham - next month.

Banes currently provides no authorised sites for the travelling community. The consultation will end on 18 July.

Over the past 10 years there have been about 20 unauthorised traveller sites across the district.

The final proposals will be submitted to the Secretary of State in April 2013.
