A mugger who knocked an 89-year-old woman to the ground and broke her arm in a bus stop robbery has been jailed.

Kirsty Moxon, 31, hit the pensioner as she waited in Rotherham and stole her handbag and walking frame.

As well as the arm injury, the victim hit her head as she fell leading to a "prolonged period of recovery", said South Yorkshire Police.

Moxon was jailed for two-and-a-half years at Sheffield Crown Court over the November attack.

The victim was waiting at the bus stop in Wingfield when Moxon hit her over the back of the head and stole her belongings, including £300 cash, before running away.

The attack was captured on CCTV and police were able to identify and arrest the OAP's attacker "just hours later".

PC Jack Mitchell of South Yorkshire Police said there had been a "tremendous response" from the community who had fundraised to give the victim her money back.

He added: "I want to wholeheartedly thank everyone involved in this, for their positive response and support they have provided to both us and the victim."

Moxon, of Whitegate Walk, admitted robbery at an earlier hearing.
