The rearranged Percy Pud run had been due to take place later after snow last weekend forced a postponement

Poor weather has again caused a popular 10k (6.2 miles) running event in South Yorkshire to be cancelled.

The Percy Pud is held each December in the Loxley Valley in Sheffield, with entrants rewarded for their efforts with a Christmas pudding.

The 30th annual event was due to have taken place last weekend but was postponed because of snow.

Organisers said the rearranged 10k, scheduled for Sunday 10 December, has now also been cancelled.

The course was deemed "not safe" by organisers, citing storm debris and large pools of water

The BBC understands about 3,000 people had been expected to take part.

Organiser Alan Barnett said: "We are completely gutted and heartbroken and would ask for your patience while we decide the next course of action.

"The course is not safe with masses of branches in the road, a tree is down, and there are many large standing water pools that take up half the road."

Mr Barnett, from Steel City Striders running club, said both marquees used for the event had been destroyed as swathes of Yorkshire were battered by strong gusts and torrential rain over the weekend.

Runners who had signed up to the event will be contacted in due course, he added.
