Sheffield: Two more arrests after death of 'Good Samaritan' Chris Marriott

Police investigating the death of a father-of-two who was hit by a car while helping an injured woman in Sheffield have made two further arrests.

Chris Marriott, 46, died after the collision on College Close, Burngreave, on 27 December, while several others were injured.

South Yorkshire Police said two men, 20 and 46, were arrested on Tuesday.

Both men have been bailed pending further investigation.

The 20-year-old was detained on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon, while the 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.

The arrests were in relation to disorder that reportedly took place following the fatal collision just after 14:00 GMT, a police spokesperson said.

Mr Marriott, who had been out for a walk with his wife and two young sons, died at the scene.

The 32-year-old woman he was helping remains in hospital "in a critical but stable condition", police said.

Hassan Jhangur, 23, has been charged with Mr Marriott's murder and five counts of attempted murder.

Mr Jhangur, of Whiteways Road, Sheffield, is expected to enter a plea at a trial preparation hearing at Sheffield Crown Court on 25 March.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson confirmed a 55-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder following the incident remained on bail.
