Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan has been named as a new ambassador for The Children's Hospital Charity in Sheffield.

The midfielder will kick off his new role with a fundraising event on 3 March featuring current and ex-players.

The charity raises money for Sheffield's Children's Hospital, to fund projects including a new helipad and buy specialist equipment.

Bannan described the work the charity does as "incredible".

Rob Gurruchaga, development officer at The Children's Hospital Charity, said: "Barry is a local hero and by supporting us he will help change the lives of children from Sheffield, Yorkshire, and beyond."
