Gymnast Beth Tweddle given Freedom of East Cheshire

Gymnast Beth Tweddle is to be given the Freedom of the Borough of East Cheshire.

East Cheshire Council announced plans to grant the accolade at a homecoming celebration for the Olympian on Sunday.

Hundreds of people turned out to welcome the London 2012 bronze medallist back to her home village of Bunbury, Cheshire on Sunday.

A street is also being named after Beth in recognition of the 27-year-old's achievements.

A council spokesman said a road on a new housing development in Bunbury would be called Beth Tweddle Close, but the timings for the development are "not yet known".

Tweddle said: "I'm lost for words, to have a street named after me is a massive honour.

"A lot of people here have supported me, some of them were my first coaches, some of them were the first people I went to gymnastics with, so it's always nice to come home and share it with them."

Tweddle won bronze on the uneven bars at London 2012 last month to add to her four world titles and is the most decorated GB gymnast in history.
