National Memorial Arboretum tribute to troops killed in 2012

The names of servicemen and women killed on duty last year are to be engraved at the National Memorial Arboretum.

Fifty-three names are due to be carved into the Armed Forces Memorial, including 44 killed in Afghanistan.

The work at the site in Alrewas, Staffordshire, is being carried out by stonemason Nick Hindle and is expected to take up to a month to complete.

A service is due to be held later in the year for families of those killed.

The Armed Forces Memorial, dedicated in 2007, is the nation's tribute to the more than 16,000 personnel who have died on duty or through terrorism since 1948.

The 150-acre arboretum is also home to more than 250 other memorials.
