Extra funding to tackle University Hospital North Midlands A&E delays

An extra £5.5m is to be spent on tackling delays at a Stoke-on-Trent Accident and Emergency unit.

Last week University Hospital North Midlands was found to have the second longest wait in the country for the most serious injuries, according to official figures.

In October, over just 48 hours, 46 patients had to wait more than 12 hours for treatment.

Part of the extra funding from government will be spent on new diagnostic equipment at the nearby Haywood Walk-In Centre.

Health bosses said diverting patients with less serious injuries to the walk-in centre was expected to take pressure off the hospital A&E.
