Student killed in Stoke-on-Trent crash had bright future - family

The family of a student who was killed in a crash have said he had a "bright future ahead of him".

Safwan Rahman, 21, was hit by a lorry near the Trentham Estate in Stoke-on-Trent, just before 15:30 GMT on 23 November.

Emergency services were called after the collision on Stone Road, but Mr Rahman, from Stoke-on-Trent, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lorry driver stopped at the scene and continues to assist police.

In a tribute, Mr Rahman's family said they were "devastated" to learn of the death of their "beloved" son and brother.

'Loving son'

They said: "Aged 21, and studying neuroscience and biochemistry in his third year at university, he had such a bright future ahead of him.

"He was a loving son and brother, and universally admired by friends and family."

The crash has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) because of recent police contact.

Anyone who has any information on the collision is urged to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 373 of 23 November.
